In my experience most low pressure applications request 2 piece floating ball valves and when not specified I've always sold the 2 piece floater.

Most high pressure needle valves have arrows printed on the sides for flow direction. Presumably this is a simplified way of keeping the stem packing side toward the lower pressure.
